二.任务型阅读

请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词。

Belief perseverance is a concept that emphasizes the tendency of people to hold on to their set beliefs, theories and ideas even though there might be clear evidence that suggests otherwise. To state an example you can relate to, have you ever found yourself in a situation where you’re trying to change your friend’s opinion about a social, scientific or political issue, and you’re constantly meeting with failure because your friend refuses to budge from his set views? So much that even if you provide strong evidence that suggests his ideas are wrong, he’ll simply continue to believe what he always holds.

Though holding on to set theories and beliefs on the basis of unfounded information can help in many ways, most other times, it forms a barrier which prevents us from making the right decisions. For example, you’re an excellent cook and people always praise you for your dishes. However, on one particular occasion, you happen to burn the rice you’re cooking. This doesn’t mean that you’re a bad cook or that you have to question your belief in your being a good cook. In this case, belief perseverance has allowed you to restore your faith in your cooking and carry on. However, there are instances where belief perseverance acts as a barrier. For instance, a man has met with four accidents in a month, but he continues to believe he’s an excellent driver. In such a case his strong belief can’t have a positive effect on his life, because he can’t take logical decisions.

So, sometimes harboring this concept can hold one back from achieving success in life, because one is so wrapped up in the way things should be rather than what they are. Fortunately, there are many things you can do in order to avoid its negative effects. For example, be willing to learn new things and take in new ideas. Make a conscious effort to test your beliefs by understanding varied points of view. Don’t allow one negative experience to influence all future outcomes. You should, on the other hand, learn to imagine the future and not let the limited experiences from the past determine all your future decisions.

If you ever feel whether your decisions tend to be one-sided, it’s always advisable to ask a friend or colleague to offer you a different viewpoint so that it can broaden your horizons. Whenever you find yourself forming an opinion quickly, pause for a minute and question whether it’s the right way to think. Gather more evidence and data about things that support your viewpoint as well as others’. Only once you’re convinced of the right path would you be willing to go ahead with the decision. Anyway, used widely and consistently, all these ideas can help you overcome belief perseverance.

An article titled Seven steps to hold a buffet (自助餐) has been  admired by Internet users recently. Many buffet fans responded: “In order to eat much to equal the money we have paid, we have to do as the article teaches us.” Some buffet fans expressed that they would like to carry out the steps in the article.

However, a girl, 23, was diagnosed with acute gastric dilatation (急性胃扩张) in the evening after having a four hours’ buffet in Wuhan.

The hot article titled Seven steps to hold a buffet introduced seven steps in having a buffet: “Fruit first, then seafood; the less beverage (饮料), the better…”

The article may lead to many unhealthy eating habits. “We should not eat beyond our capacity with the idea of equaling the money we have paid because it harms our health greatly,” according to Li Hui, a doctor in Changsha. She added that she and other colleagues often receive some patients with stomach upsets as a result of eating too much at a buffet, and more in winter. However, cases of patients suffering acute gastric dilatation such as the girl in Wuhan are rare.

【写作内容】

2. 请你以约120个词谈谈你对如何吃自助餐的看法,内容包括:

(1) 吃自助餐时暴饮暴食的危害;

(2) 我们该如何对待自助餐;

(3) 谈谈你(或你的朋友)吃自助餐时的做法和理由。

书面表达

One possible version:

Many buffet fans would rather eat as much as they could to equal the money they have paid than pay attention to their health, which leads to many unhealthy eating habits and problems.

Buffets can be a welcome treat for the money you pay, since you can have a larger and more abundant meal than that in a normal restaurant. Nevertheless, they can be harmful to your health if you eat too much within a short time. Your stomach will be harmed if you eat too much. As a result, its digestive function will become weaker and weaker.

For buffet fans, the primary rules are not to eat too much each time. The key to having a healthy buffet is to follow the right eating order. It is wise to have vegetables, meat and seafood in right order.

I had a large buffet lunch with my parents last year. Faced with so many delicious choices, I found it difficult not to eat too much of my favorite food. However, I resisted the temptation as I know being healthy is much better than staying in hospital for days.
