When we read newspapers, we often come across such English words as “AIDS” and “PK.” When we watch TV, we frequently hear words like “NBA” or “PM2.5.” When we speak, we automatically use words like “OUT” or “Bye-bye.” English words and expressions like these are getting popular. They have already become part of our daily language. And 239 English words have been included in the latest Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese.

The inclusion has started a heated discussion. A group of scholars signed a letter of complaint over the inclusion of these English words, which, they think, goes against Chinese language policies. They not only worry that Chinese is borrowing an increasing number of English words but are also concerned that the inclusion may hurt the dignity of the Chinese language. However, others are in favor of the inclusion because it is hard to say whether it will threaten the Chinese language. They believe the selection is mostly a result of their function and use in daily life.

[写作内容]

1. 用约 30 个单词写出上文概要;

2. 用约 120 个单词发表你的观点,内容包括:

(1)支持或反对汉语词典收录英语词汇;

(2) 2- 3个理由或论据支撑你的观点。

[写作要求]

1. 可以支持文中任一观点,但必须提供理由或论据;

2. 阐述观点或提供论据时,不能直接引用原文语句;

3. 作文中不能出现真实姓名和学校名称;

4. 不必写标题。

参考范文一

同意:

Today, more and more English words find their way into the Chinese language. Even the Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese includes 239 English words. Some people support it while others do not.

Generally, I am in favour of the inclusion. As the number of English learners is on the rise, it’s not difficult for them to understand these words in Chinese contexts. Besides, it is, on some occasions, more convenient to use English words. Most people nowadays use “IT” instead of its translation “xinxi jishu.” In our global village, we can see that it’s not uncommon for one language to borrow words from other languages. In English, there are many words borrowed from Latin, French, or even Chinese. In fact, Chinese has never stopped taking words from other languages, say, “ganbu” or “minzhu” from Japanese.

So, it’s safe to conclude that it is reasonable to include English which facilitates daily communication.

反对:

With English words getting popular in both media and daily life, a Chinese dictionary has included 239 of them, leaving the public divided into two opposing groups: “For” and “Against.”

I tend to take the “Against” side for two reasons. Firstly, this inclusion has actually polluted our mother tongue. Sooner or later, many English accents will rise and fall with the four Chinese tones. And, rules don’t tell us how to pronounce such English-turned Chinese words as “wifi” and “out in a Chinese way! Secondly, such an inclusion may give rise to prejudices of the educated against those with little knowledge of English. Just for one illustration, while college students take “Bye-bye” for granted when parting from each other, it may unconsciously hurt the feelings of someone who is used to “zaijian.”

In short, not only has the inclusion poisoned Chinese, it may also bring about distance between the Chinese people.

A survey of English school children shows boys and girls are worrying about the way they look. The study finds that over half of male school children are not confident because of their body shape. The figure for girls is a little higher, at 59 per cent.

Researchers questioned 693 teachers about how their students felt about their bodies. Teachers said many children were very upset if others said bad things about their appearance. Around 55 per cent of teachers reported that girls were very sensitive to comments about their looks.

Teachers give a number of reasons why children as young as four years old are stressed out about their shape. Over 90 per cent of teachers blame the Internet and television. Children see images of “perfect” bodies every day and they feel they have to look that way too. Many children are on a diet to make themselves attractive. One elementary school teacher says, “I work with four to five-year-olds and some say things like, ‘I can’t eat cheese; it will make me fat.’”

【写作内容】

(1) 青少年注重个人外表的原因;

(2) 青少年是否有必要注重自己的外表?为什么?

(3) 关于外表问题你有何建议。

【写作要求】

1. 作文中可以使用亲身经历或虚构的故事,也可以参照阅读材料的内容,但不得直接引用原文中的句子;

2. 作文中不能出现真实姓名和学校名称。

参考范文

A survey shows that over half school children are worried about their shapes because the Internet and television often show “perfect” body images. Therefore, many children are on a diet to make themselves look better.

In my opinion, it is natural and understandable that people care about their own appearances. However, when some so-called perfect appearance and figure are frequently mentioned or shown through the media, many people, especially the young, are becoming the followers of this “perfection”. As a result, more and more young people pay more attention to their appearance.

As teenagers, we should care about our appearance, because it’s a fact that our appearance is as important as our words and behavior when we communicate with others. But we are not supposed to be “perfect”, and I believe there is no standard of perfect appearance. We will look good as long as we are healthy, happy and positive.

The appearance refers to the way someone looks to other people. Although we can’t change our looks, we can improve our appearance by developing some good habits, such as always wearing clean clothes and being energetic and healthy by keeping taking exercise. A little pleasant change in appearance will show others our respect and indeed make us confident.

Many people in England are angry that drivers park their cars on the pavements. Cars that are on the pavement prevent people from walking safely down the street. They have to walk into the road to get around the running cars. It’s a lot more difficult for blind people to walk around the town if cars are in their way. A spokesman for a charity told the BBC, “It can be frightening for anyone who is forced to step into a road because the pavement is blocked by a van, car or other badly parked vehicle. Imagine you have to step into a road where you can’t see oncoming traffic.”

A survey on parking in Britain found that 70 percent of people want a ban on parking on pavements. A town south of London has already started a system to get drivers to park in a proper car park. Any motorist who parks on the pavement gets a $115 fine. However, many people say the fines do not work. Local people say car owners ignore the fine and park where they want. One woman said there would soon be a very serious accident because of a car parked on the pavement. She wants her town to be like London, which has strict rules against pavement parking.

【写作内容】

1. 以约30个词概括上文的主要内容;

2. 以约120个词就人行道停车谈谈你的看法,内容包括:

(1) 分析驾驶员在人行道上停车的原因;

(2) 简述人行道停车给行人带来的不便;

(3) 你对解决该问题有何建议?

参考范文

In England, many vehicles are parked on the pavements, which results in much inconvenience to pedestrians, especially blind people. Therefore, many people call for more strict rules against pavement parking.

In my opinion, the problem of pavement parking is a universal phenomenon. With people’s incomes growing, there has been a sharp increase in the number of vehicles. Since there is such a severe lack of parking places, many drivers couldn’t find proper places to park their vehicles. As a result, they can’t help but park their vehicles on the pavements.

However, pavement parking does cause much inconvenience to pedestrians, especially those disabled people. They are forced to step into the roads, which is likely to cause accidents.

To solve this problem, I suggest that more parking places should be built in the downtown areas to meet the need of drivers. Besides, drivers are also supposed to be considerate and not to park their vehicles on the pavement. In the end, one can choose to go out by bus or on foot if he expects the traffic is very busy.

书面表达

Can you work out the 14th root (14次方根) of a 16-digit number? How long will you need to work it out? Recently, Zhou Wei, who was seen on “The Strongest Brain” show on Jiangsu TV, worked it out in just one minute.

However, this 23-year-old young man from Wutai county, Shanxi province was a rural child diagnosed with “moderate brain damage”. As most disabled children in the rural area in China, Zhou Wei endured a tough childhood because of his disease, being teased by his peers, refused by the schools, etc.

That night, his nearly perfect talent show greatly surprised those who once ignored and looked down upon him. From “moderate brain damage” to “the strongest brain”, the up and down of fate is quite impressive. The mathematical genius hits the most soft place in people’s inner world: once a discriminated life can actually release the power of life that even “normal” people cannot reach. How amazing it is!

Right now, as the most famous person in his hometown, local authorities eventually heard about Zhou’s talent. They said that the government will finance his family and protect him from further discrimination.

【写作内容】

1. 以约30个词概括上文的主要内容;

2. 以约120个词就Zhou Wei事件谈谈你的看法,内容包括:

(1) 你对周玮事件的感想;

(2) 周玮的才能为什么迟迟未被发现,给出你的分析;

(3) 人们应该如何正确看待周玮现象。

Zhou Wei’s mathematical talent showed on “The Strongest Brain” turned him into a famous person overnight, winning him a lot of respect and admiration. Ironically, he used to be a neglected creature, diagnosed with “moderate brain damage”.

Greatly impressed by Zhou’s perfect talent, I admire him deeply. However, what strikes me is that: how many geniuses like Zhou Wei in China are still living in the shadow of discrimination?

Zhou Wei belongs to a special group who have difficulty living a normal life but are always gifted in a certain field, such as math, music, painting, etc. Unfortunately, there are serious shortcomings in the education and care for this group. Many people look down on them; some see them as “troubles”; some experts even rudely judge them as “patients”. Thus, the so-called “moderate brain damage” almost buried a true genius.

In my opinion, the “Zhou Wei phenomenon” shouldn’t be regarded as interesting news to satisfy our curiosity. It’s urgent that a long-term system be established to ensure special geniuses are fairly treated. The whole society should take the responsibility without hesitation.
